Course content

Course introduction

This elective is led by industry experts at UKFast which is one of the country’s leading web hosting and cloud providers. During the elective, students will take part in live projects which will help the develop their digital skills, with the aim of launching online applications. As part of the course students will also have the opportunity to work at UK Fast’s state-of-the-art-offices, studying alongside industry experts. This elective is aimed at tech-fanatic students who are interested in a career in digital, who have a strong computer science background. During the course of the elective you will compete the Linux Essentials qualification, which is a world-renowned vendor certification from the Linux Professional Institute (LPI).

Who should follow the programme?

Students will opt for this programme because they are passionate about digital and server technology and want to develop industry- recognised skills to support business ready online platforms. As well as the college entry requirements for electives, you will need to be touch with your geeky side and preferable studying computing or ICT.

What will this elective lead to after SJR?

The skills and knowledge gained on this elective programme will enable students to progress into IT and Computing related Higher Apprenticeships, degrees or employment. For students following this elective progression to further education pathways, apprenticeships and employment has been outstanding. UKFast currently employs a number of ex-SJR students.

Our Elective Programme is designed to help you develop your gifts and interests as part of an enhanced level 3 programme. We will help you realise your potential by nurturing your talent and preparing you for study at the most prestigious universities or for progression to competitive higher-level apprenticeships. Your options range from our Honours Programme, which might include following a fourth A level, to specialist Futures Programmes that will support your career goals.

Competitive sport

The college has a number of teams that play as part of the Association of College’s league and are very competitive each year. We play games on a Wednesday afternoon, so this will make up part of your time-table.

There will be trials for male and female football, male and female rugby league and netball on Wednesday 9th September at 1.30pm, meet at the Sports Hall. Following trials will be a pizza and soft drink meeting in the Sports Hall to give you more information on the season. Hockey and Basketball will follow during the first week. Details will be emailed.
